A tough question, only because there are so many things I love to do around Edinburgh.

How am I gonna fill my weekends before my busy final year.

I'm trying to think of things that nobody else would have said because I liked going to the beach and stuff like that.

I'm Matt your host for season six of Multi Story Edinburgh. I just got back from my year abroad in Spain, and so to help me get back into the swing of things here in Edinburgh, I asked my guests for their top recommendations on spots and cool things to do around town. Let's face it, there's just so much out there, so let's see if they were able to help me out.

I really like Cammo. You've been to Cammo?

Matt 00:49

Ehm... no

Kirsten 00:49

It's a bit further out of Edinburgh, so it's west of Edinburgh, and it's like an old estate in a woodland just kind of near Cramond. It's on the way out, and it's really nice to go for a walk. And there's kind of ruins of this old estate all around as you walk around it. So I would say there. And you can walk along the river Almond and things like that from Cammo too. You can walk from Cammo to the beach front at Cramond.

So that's quite a good one, and probably one that not many people like in the city center would know.

Matt 01:15

Yeah, yeah. Totally. So smashed it there. Smashed there. I think I see that on the front of busses as well. Cammo.

Kirsten 01:22

Yeah. Bus goes there, yeah, one of those places where you're like, What is this? Yeah, Cammo. I think that's a good one.

I... this is probably not, you probably already know this, but I think one of the best things is, like, on a sunny day, which I know they're rare, so you have to take advantage when they're there, is to just like, grab a coffee from someplace and take a walk through the Meadows, or, like, a climb up Arthur's Seat, I think especially with a group of friends, just like chatting with a cup of coffee in hand. I think that's unmatched, honestly.

One of my favorite things to do. And I know it sounds a bit weird at first, but there's a cemetery called Warriston Cemetery. It's near, god, what's name of the area? It's kind of in Leith, river bank area.

Matt 02:19

Okay.

Ammir 02:19

It's this massive, intentionally abandoned cemetery. So they don't really cut the trees there or do anything, unless it's dangerous, of course. But other than that, they just let wildlife grow and thrive. So you can go there and you can see so many cute little birds, squirrels, foxes, and it's really big, such a large cemetery, I think it's the largest in Edinburgh, I believe, unofficially, and I used to go there at 1am 2am just to go on a walk when there's no one around me to clear my mind. In first year, I remember the first time I ever snowed in Edinburgh. That's where I went, and I could tell that I was the first person there, because the snow was still fresh. It was just my footprints and the little paws of the foxes that were running and playing around in the wind, in the in the snow. So that's definitely one of my fondest memories in Edinburgh. Other than that, there's Wardie Bay, if you're familiar, so it's on the shore of Leith. There's a little bay there, and you can walk across to the very end. I did that walk a few times. I actually had the coast guard and the police called on me once there because it was a lovely day for me. It was shiny, it was sunny, it was slightly windy and the... it was slightly wavy, but I was completely fine. I was happy. I was taking pictures, and I yeah, and I was coming, I was coming back, and I see these two men approach me, and they're like, someone called because they thought you were in danger.

Oh! And these were the coast guards?

Ammir 03:45

Yeah, yeah. And I walked back with them, and I, you know, explained to them, I'm completely fine. I'm very happy here and there were two vans and maybe six, eight other men there just waiting for me because they thought I was in danger, but I was perfectly fine. And the pictures I took were kind of worth it.

Yeah, yeah. It's nice to know that.

That's extraordinary. And the first place you recommended really took me to, took me there. So, but I  want to go there in person. That sounds magical, really.

So, yeah, my two hidden gems in Edinburgh would probably be Lannan bakery in Stockbridge, which has kind of blown up, and there's only three or four days a week you can go, but it's just the best pastries I've ever had. So if you get a chance, if you're in Stockbridge, I recommend that there's also Ante which is a café just on Leith Walk, opposite where I used to work when I was studying at uni, and it's just beautiful coffee, relaxing decor, I don't know, it just feels like a very peaceful place to be. So yeah, Lannan bakery and Ante.

It might be a cliche, but I think for me, you can't be Meadows on a sunny day. You know? Get some food and drinks. Just set yourself down the Meadows. I like to kick up all around with my friends. Yeah, I really don't think you can beat that in Edinburgh.

I've really been enjoying kind of heading out towards Leith and walking around by the canal, just kind of visiting the coffee shops out that way.

Coffee shops in Edinburgh?

Brigid 05:22

Shocking. I think that's a really nice area to just go hang out in, Stockbridge as well. Yeah, it's just a nice spot.

Matt 05:32

So, yeah, Leith, I think that's the area to explore for me, it seems. What about an archeological site?

Brigid 05:39 

Oh, well, I mean, you know, you can always just heah up Arthur's Seat. There's a lot there, a lot there. There's a, there's like, a medieval hospital, okay, about like 30 minutes south of here, yeah, and which is quite an interesting site to go, kind of poke around at...
